About us


Let us introduce the Speakeasy team – Tracy and Rodney, husband and wife team. We live in Palmerston North – and have both always lived in the Manawatu! Between us we have five children (his + her’s), they are mostly off doing their own thing.
 
Rodney has an IT degree, and is a Senior IT developer by day and known as the Speakeasy technical director when he’s not busy! Tracy, aka Speakeasy’s creative director, has a Business Management Degree and teaching diploma, and also works as a Quality Analyst. You can see so far, this is a side gig for us, and we love to be busy!

Speakeasy has a sizeable inventory comprising over 200 items covering the basics (tables, chairs/covers, cloths, plates, cutlery, glasses), bigger items (arbours, backdrops, fairy lights/curtains), through to an extensive range of styling products (candle holders, table runners, vases, centre pieces, mirrors). We’re adding inventory items continuously.

Tracy has always been keen to own her own business, and is very creative. She loves to plan within an inch and style up a storm, and Rodney is always her right-hand man - this opportunity was too good to miss. Tracy loves creating events that memories are made of – whether it is a small intimate dinner party, a significant birthday, high tea, party to celebrate an engagement or wedding, baby or bridal shower, the opportunities are endless.
 
Aligning Speakeasy with the work Tracy and Rodney did for their own gorgeous wedding ceremony and reception in January 2020, it’s the perfect marriage to join the existing Speakeasy inventory with the items purchased for their own wedding.

Working alongside you to understand your overall “style” for your event, and how we can help you achieve that, either through our inventory hire or planning services. We want you to feel supported by us, as one of your building blocks to ensuring your event is the “best day ever”.

Our Vision

For the short term, Tracy and Rodney are sorting the inventory and merging it with items they already had from their own wedding. Placing quite a bit of focus on getting engagement via social media, through to the website. Working through the website to ensure it showcases all the items available to hire (there is lots to add) and ensuring it offers a good customer experience. Working on the process for clients to move easily from the website, booking items, through to their event, providing customer service that clients find contributes to their events success.

Working with other businesses within the event industry to develop strong partnerships and build collaboration.

Listening to clients and their ongoing needs will enable the inventory to be expanded.
 
Looking ahead, to the longer vision, Tracy and Rodney have ideas for rebranding, and seeing where this journey takes them.

My Style

Speakeasy isn’t just about Tracy’s style, but understanding Tracy’s style a little, will help you to understand what Speakeasy has to offer. Tracy love’s black and white from here to eternity, classic, classy and clean lines; these form the foundation which can easily be built upon with gold, silver, bronze and current rose gold trend. In additional bright colours are generally a hit! Generally, Tracy would recommend, when creating a colour pallet, to choose a couple of main colours, and maybe a contrast, i.e. silver, black and white as the base, with a green contrast or something bright!
 
That’s not to say that everything from Speakeasy needs to be black and white, there are so many options – brights, pastels, muted colours, with a hint of metallics. Not to be discounted alongside the current trends of rustic décor, each and every person has their own style, and we would love to work with you to achieve the vision for your event.
